Make it look good. Not.

Most people make the mistake of thinking design is what it looks like. People think it’s this veneer — that the designers are handed this box and told, ‘Make it look good!’ That’s not what we think design is. It’s not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works.

Wer liest schon gerne Pseudolatein?

Lesenswertes vom 01.12.2009 – Mobile Failures

  • Droid Doesn’t: It’s Not Ready For Prime Time | Alsop Louie Partners
"The software (Google’s Android plus apps both from Google and from other developers) doesn’t work and is unacceptable on a mobile device. First, the operating system doesn’t work well enough to be considered a mobile OS. A mobile phone needs to have an OS that is really tied down and ready to perform at all times, like for receiving phone calls. This one isn’t. The process management in the OS stinks. [...]
I have missed calls, lost calls, misdialed calls, pocket dialed people, and had many other experiences in the last month that have lead me to conclude that the Droid is not suited to its intended purpose as a smart phone."
  • My Droid decision | bijansabet.com
"But last week, I decided to return the Droid.
With all due respect, I disagree with Stewart Alsop’s opinion that the Android software doesn’t work. [...] But that Motorola hardware just didn’t do it for me. The battery cover kept falling off. I couldn’t get comfortable with the keyboard. The buttons don’t feel right and it was awkward to keep rotating the phone 90 degrees depending on the use case. The camera isn’t great (even well focused photos didn’t look nice). At the end of the day, I decided the Droid is too big and chunky for my taste."
  • The End Of The CrunchPad | TechCrunch
"Our plan was to debut the CrunchPad on stage at the Real-Time Crunchup event on November 20, a little over a week ago. [...] And then the entire project self destructed over nothing more than greed, jealousy and miscommunication.
On November 17, our deadline date for greenlighting the debut three days later, the CEO of our partner on the project, Chandra Rathakrishnan, sent me an email with the subject “no good news.” [...]
Bizarrely, we were being notified that we were no longer involved with the project. Our project. Chandra said that based on pressure from his shareholders he had decided to move forward and sell the device directly through Fusion Garage, without our involvement."
