How to give great presentations | Adfero Group
"We’ve all seen horrible presentations. Most of us have probably given a few in our day. But in the professional world, public speaking is an unavoidable fact of life. [...] In reminiscing on the truly awful presentations I’ve seen, I came up with 4 basic pitfalls that can doom any public speaker."

No more slides | Oliver Reichenstein
"While reading a speech from paper is widely frowned upon, it is not only accepted that people use slides for support, it's expected that you show something visual when you speak. This fairly new practice is justified with old cliches like "a picture says more than a thousand words." The truth is: If we prepare properly we don't need PowerPoint."

4 things your upcoming conference presentation really oughtta be | Cooper Journal
"After years of doing this, I’ve come to group these successes and failures into four big criteria that every conference presentation ought to have. I’m going to share them with you now in the hopes that a) I’m right and b) more presentations will fall into the “awesome” rather than “regrettable” category."

Dann habe ich schon mal was, woran ich mich für meinen World Usability Day Vortrag halten kann.

11 Reasons why responsive web design isn’t that cool! | WebDesignShock
"Every proposal must have some weak points and this, as a “new one”, shouldn’t be considered the solution to the world’s problems. In the heat of the moment, not many people stop and think about the downside, the mistakes and the compatibility issues this proposal may have; and this is actually very normal. In the end, we’re just starting to know how this thing works, right?"

CSS Media Query for Mobile is Fool’s Gold | Cloud Four
"Unfortunately, CSS media query is fool’s gold for mobile devices. It hides tough problems and gives developers a false promise of a simple solution for designing to multiple screens."

Responsive Web Design or Separate Mobile Site? Eh. It Depends. | Global Moxie
"In the mobile world, we have the persistent and circular debate over whether the mobile web should be powered by the very same sites and webpages that render the desktop web. Savvy CSS media queries, beautifully explained as “responsive web design” by Ethan Marcotte, can transform any webpage into device-specific layouts tailored for any device. But should they? Strong opinions sally forth."

Hier ein paar der netten Artikel, die ich in den letzten Tagen über Steve Jobs und Apple gelesen habe.

How Jobs made Apple fit for the future – FT.com
To discover the useful lessons of Mr Jobs’s managerial legacy, it is worth depersonalising the company he has built. For instance, Apple is not really one company, but three very different organisations lashed together and devastatingly fit for purpose.

Steve Jobs: America’s Greatest Failure – Nick Schulz | National Review Online
Lots of digital ink will be spilled about Jobs in the coming days, most of it focusing on his truly marvelous successes. It’s better to focus on his failures. […] I don’t mean learn from their mistakes. I mean learn from their abject, humiliating, bonehead, epic fails.

The Steve Jobs Difference | vanderwal.net
I have had the fortune of chatting with people at Apple in the cafe, being invited to speak to them, and pulled aside at events by a couple groups at Apple to "chat about some things" that lasted a few hours. These glimpses inside left me in greater awe of not only Apple and its very different and secret way of doing things, but of Jobs himself.

Mobile websites, management, and Long Tail content | Bob Johnson’s Blog
At least 50 percent of the content on higher education websites […] is of little importance to most of the people using that site. […] Nobody is going to create a truly friendly mobile web environment if they try to convert all their present website content to a "mobile friendly" status.

On Mobile Context | Cloud Four
The question of mobile context has plagued me. In January 2009, I wrote about the “On the Go” Myth?. Therefore, it doesn’t surprise me to see very smart people grappling with mobile context and coming to the conclusion that “mobile context has been overblown.
So given my previous doubts about mobile context, you’d think I would find it easy to agree with the current meme that mobile context doesn’t exist. And yet when I read posts and tweets that argue that there is no mobile web, I find myself disagreeing.
